The Headband’s Journey From The Classroom To The Ramp

The Headband’s Journey From The Classroom To The Ramp

There are not many school uniform items that pass into adulthood. Save for one. The humble hairband. Yes, you read it right. “From Milan to Paris to British Vogue, the fashion industry can’t get enough of school-uniform chic,” says a report.

Thanks to fashion houses, the hairband, a quintessential school time accessory, is in the midst of a renaissance. It has come to symbolize much more than mere utility – keeping your hair off your face.

The report says, “in September at the Prada spring/summer 2019 fashion show when Miuccia Prada…sent every single one of her 50 models down the catwalk wearing thick studded and satin style()” headbands, a trend was immediately set.

In February last year, stylists and influencers like Pernille TeisbaekVeronika Heibrunner and Tamu  McPherson were spotted wearing the stylish headband.

So was the Aladdin actor Naomi Scott found sporting an orange styled one from the collection on the April cover of British Vogue.

The headband, which is sure to make heads turn, gets its validation from stylists and style gurus who understand that once the headband has made itself appear on the Prada catwalk, it has become part of something larger.

They predict that the headband is a trend that will catch the elders’ fancy more than it will for the young ones who have just about stopped wearing the accessory and for who nostalgia will not ring as many bells.

Supporting the case of the headband, stars were seen at the Oscars, 2019 sporting the headband. Best supporting actress nominee Rachel Weisz, 48, paired her Givenchy haute couture red gown with a thin beaded style headband and matching earrings.

At the same venue, Black Panther star Danai Gurira, 41, wore a double gold band style headband, glamming up the style quotient with an equally dazzling gold dress. She also proved that the width of the headband is up to its wearer.

Since the headband made a huge comeback at the fashion world’s ramps across the globe, sales have surged for the humble headband like no other hair accessory has seen.
